Presentation of the FOOD programme at a European Commission meeting

The CHAFEA (European Commission’s Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency) organised with the support of DG SANTE a Cluster meeting that took place from November 30th to December 2nd in Budapest. It was a showcase of more than 30 projects on the theme “Nutrition and physical activities: How European Union contributes to Public Health priorities including obesity?”. It gathered speakers from the European Commission, from the World Health Organisation, from the Ministries of Health of different Member States as well as from the civil society (NGOs, universities …).

Childhood obesity, physical activity and healthy environments were the 3 main topics this event. The FOOD programme was presented within the 3rd topic as it eases the access to healthy meals during the working day.

The European Commission’s objective was to show the effectiveness of its actions through funding health projects. Journalists from all over Europe attended the meeting to learn about these activities and outputs. This meeting was a very good occasion to show the diversity of the actions that can be undertaken as well as the various types of entities that can work together towards a common objective: promoting the health of European citizens.
